In the beginning I have only thought that media is newspapers, magazines, and radio that provide us news, but then I realize that the 'media' could be anything. The word 'media' came from medium, which is something in between, like an extension to a human body.
But after world war two, the TV was introduced and years later it started presenting news. After that, the newspapers and radio also joined the TV as the media became the sources of all news, and they remain as the regular media to provide news and information to the people.

Until now, there came Social Media. It is a two way process that allows the user and the content to communicate. The users don't just watch a video or look at a photo but also has the ability to give comments and feedbacks on it. This allow users around the world to share their own thoughts.
Besides, Social media is closely related to Web 2.0, because people nowadays are not just collecting information from the web, but they are slowly merging themselves into the web itself. Just like watching a video on Youtube, they don't just watch it, but after watching the video they're able to give positive or negative comments about that video.
However, Social media should not be confused with social networking because social network is towards connecting people together and they allow us to meet new friends and look for people that has similar interest as ours.
'media' could be anything , is a concept best seen in creative advertising where any thing any where is used to send a message. i.e. you piss in the toilet and there's an ad embedded in the mirror or on the steps of an elevator
